Diesel Driven Fire Pumps,
I have a backp up that is OOS. Is there a requirement to have a backup pump or can the primary be enough? if so what is the reference. thanks
As far as I know, there is no NFPA standard requiring a backup fire pump. There is however, a report made by Schirmer Engineering where it recommends 2 fire pumps when the property value is over 100 million USD. My opinion is that a well maintained pump is better than having a backup pump.
NFPA 20 AND NFPA 70 695, LOOK INTO RELIABLE POWER. THIS SECTION WILL TELL YOU ABOUT NOT LOSING POWER IN YOUR AREA FOR OVER 4 HOURS DURING THE YEAR ETC.. YOU HAVE TWO FIRE PUMPS FOR A REASON. IM SURE THEY BOTH MUST BE OPERTATING. INSURANCE, CITY PRESSURE, HEIGHT, SQUARE FOOTAGE AND MANY THINGS DETERMINE IF YOU NEED TWO FIRE PUMPS.
