In NFPA 13 section 22.214.171.124.5 . Is this only for solid floor joists or would open wood engineered joists, 11-3/4” deep with drywall attached directly to the bottom be covered under this code, as well?
It says solid wood or similar,
Open wood joist is not similar, and would allow spread of fire. NO Openings in the members.
Install non combustible insulation, top to bottom??
Ok, that’s what I got from it as well. We will be filling the space with non combustible insulation. On another note..
When adding 20 sprinklers to a building bye to the owner building a mezzanine. That’s sprinklers are not in the most hydraulically demanding area. Would New hydraulic calculations be warranted?
I am not a designer or hydraulic person,
But unless the ahj wants it, I would say no, unless you are protecting a different hazard level.
