So, we recently had a fire in an A3 occupancy in our city. We have determined the cause of the fire was related to the way in which the Hookah is prepared by employees for consumer use in their lounge area. The preparation process lead us to a lot of questions about whether or not these occupancies are classified correctly or should be classified as a special hazard. So my questions for all of you out there: have any of you experienced fires in these occupancies and what did you attribute the cause to? How do you classify these occupancies that are strictly smoking/hookah bars (no alcohol)? Have you created/enacted local ordinances that address things like ventilation, open fires, fire suppression, and allowable process for preparing Hookahs?
