Is an ASC allowed to share their generator with the office building that is attached to the ASC?
Yes. See 126.96.36.199.7 of NFPA 99 (2012) for more details. Will need it's own transfer switch and must be able to be shed. There are some other criteria within the section and additional considerations such as how to provide emergency egress lighting in that building under load shed conditions. There is some useful annex material that goes along with the section as well.
188.8.131.52.7.3* Optional loads shall be permitted to be served bythe essential electrical system generating equipment. Optionalloads shall be served by their own transfer means, such that theseloads shall not be transferred onto the generating equipment ifthe transfer will overload the generating equipment and shall beshed upon a generating equipment overload. Use of the generatingequipment to serve optional loads shall not constitute “otherpurposes” as described in 184.108.40.206.7.1 and, therefore, shall not requiremultiple generator sets.220.127.116.11.7.4 Where optional loads include contiguous orsame-site facilities not covered in this code, provisions shall bemade to meet the requirements of NFPA 101, Life Safety Code;Article 700 of NFPA70, National Electrical Code; and other applicableNFPA requirements for emergency egress under loadshedconditions.
