Where can I find installation requirements for water cannon fire monitors?
NFPA 24. Look for the mater water streams chapter.
NFPA 24 doesn't specify installation requirements.
The customer would like to use them as a preemptive measure, along with infrared detectors, to put out any hot spots that might arise. He would not like any flow alarms attached to the fire monitors. Because I am so unfamiliar, I was wondering if you could provide direction as to how to design a system for these. Is a riser necessary? Are they piped directly off of the underground? Which code should we be referencing? The building itself will be covered with deluge systems.
Any input is greatly appreciated
You better hire a fire protection engineer or a fire protection specialist for a proper design using master streams. The design basis will depend on the hazard being protected (for example, API 2510/2510A for protecting LPG tanks or NFPA 11 for tanks storing combustible liquids).
Monitors are usually connected almost directly to the underground main (or aboveground main if that is what's available). A control valve (gate or butterfly) is the only type of valve needed on most installations. See figure A.9.1(a) of NFPA 24 for typical installations.
