I work in a nursing home in the state of Ohio can anyone tell me the max allowable
#distance between smoke detectors and how close a air diffuser or damper can be to a detector? or what code governs this? thanks!!
You are talking smoke detectors tied into a full fire alarm system??
If so NFPA 72 is the standard for spacing.
Normally 30 feet as you walk between smoke detectors.
That can be extended to I think 42 between on narrow, low ceiling corridors.
Your fire alarm company should be able to answer all these questions.
there are other variables for spacing
Or do you have another reason for the question???
three feet from air registry
Looks like you are working in an existing heath care occupancy.
The code that deals with the existing building is the 2012 NFPA 101.
You should find the fire alarm system requirements in Section 19.3.4 and the core code requirements in Section 9.6.1. If you are doing a building rehabilitation project look into Sections.
Repair of Existing - 43.3Renovation of Existing - 43.4Modification of Existing - 43.5Reconstruction of Existing - 43.6Change of Occupancy - 43.7
If you are modifying, reconstruction, and/or change of occupancy you will need to use the NFPA 72 standard for installation for the required new construction. Otherwise, you may not need to retrofit the smoke detectors locations to the new standards if the smoke detection system is in compliance with the existing health care occupancy requirements in the 2012 NFPA 101.
Please reply to me directly if you would like to further discuss.
Thanks, that's a big help!
