I am trying to clarify something for my boss. I can't seem o find if there is a clear definition between the 2 or if they are considered to be the same.
Your typical "extension cord" is listed in the product category for Cord Sets and consist of a length of flexible cord assembled to an attachment plug as a line fitting and a cord connector as a load fitting. Outdoor-use extension cord sets are intended to supply portable appliances and are acceptable for use in Article 525 if they are listed for extra-hard usage as required by 525.20(A).
Flexible cords are used in extension cords. Common meaning for extension cord is an flexible cord fitted with a plug at one end and a receptacle at the other.
This is an interesting question.
Why are you asking? Are there sections of the NFPA 70 that requires the definitions.
Thank you for the information.
In NFPA 70 Article 525 it mentioned "flexible cord". It seemed very ambiguous and was looking to find something that gave more of a definition. Through my reading I could not clarify if flexible cord was a equal to an extension cord.
I help run a temporary amusement facility and want to be ahead of the Fire Marshall.
So what do you want to do??
And what do you want to use to power it??
