I'm with an AHJ and we were thinking of enforcing all of the NFPA 5 year inspections. Just looking for thoughts and advice on who out there is testing the FDC's according to 25.
We do not usually see the five year report.
We have not been pushing the five year inspection.
I could see the hydro on a longer fdc run, but when it is a very short run, not sure what is accomplished by it.
OHHH I am not an engineer, so you can discount my reply if you want
We are a municipal fire department in Ohio and have just started enforcing the 5 year FDC hydro and 5 year internal inspections. If there is a wall-mount FDC directly into the riser, we do not require the hydro. However if there is any piping inside the building form the FDC to the riser, we still require the 5 year hydro.
We are starting to ask for the annual forward flow test also, but finding that most of our sprinklered buildings were not engineered to enable the water flow for this test.
Do most of your systems have back-flow preventors?
If the system demand is not large, sometimes the main drain can flow enough water to meet the demand
