Can I Install one water tank for multiple buildings, and what is the maximal distance between the tank and the fire pumps, according to NFPA.
You can install one water tank for multiple buildings as long as it has the capacity to supply the building with the largest water demand.
Maximum distance form tank to fire pump will be determined by the pump's suction pressure. Suction pressure cannot be below 0 PSI (if pump is above tank) or -3 PSI (if tank is at or below tank).
Also, all buildings must be aware of the status for the water supply. The tank is required to be monitored for temperature, water level, tamper/PIV valves, etc. If all the buildings sharing the tank are covered by one overall fire alarm system or network then one set of connections can monitor and annunciate the status to all buildings. If the buildings have separate fire alarm systems then each system must monitor all the required elements individually to be warned of off normal conditions with the water supply.
