I work in a nuclear power plant performing electrical maintenance. My question involves a situation where I am working on a 480 volt electric motor. The motor is tagged out at the MCC that feeds the motor. As part of the tagout, the disconnect switch is in the off position and the control/power fuses are removed. Am I required to perform a live dead live check at the motor. The issue being the motor splice is taped. In order to perform the live dead live, I have to cut through the tape. I can't do it because if it were "live" I would have conductive tools in the restricted approach boundary and the terminations are close to the conductive motor termination box and could make contact with the motor termination box while trying to remove the tape.
