We are in need of renovation/painting of our stairwells in a hospital but are unsure how to handle the interim life safety portion-
Stairwells are 7 floors with a basement; there are 4 stairwells on each floor and we plan to work one at a time.
I have read that we cannot lock the top or bottom but I have also read you have the ability to lock alternating floors as long as signage is in place.
My question is: Can I close a stairwell completely? Cover the exit signs and mark the entry doors appropriately and meet code?
