Does a Assisted Facility in Use Group I-1 & I-2 require automatic smoke detectors with in the sleeping areas?
If my memory is not failing me, assisted living use in a building is a residential occupancy and national building and safety codes require all residential sleeping units require smoke alarms.
Milton is correct, assisted living is an R-occupancy and would require automatic smoke detection in each sleeping room. I-occupancies if fully sprinklered would not necessarily be required to have automatic smoke detection in sleeping rooms based on NFPA-101 as enforced by CMS. Local and state fire codes would still be in play for both occupancy types in your jurisdiction.
