Are emergency lighting fixtures required to be painted a certain color(red) when installed in industrial facility? Is there an NFPA code requirement for this?
As far as I can determine there is no requirement for exit sign boxes in industrial occupancies to be painted red. From my experience I have seen aluminum, white plastic and black exit sign boxes none painted red. The only color requirement is for the the word exit be a contrasting color to the background such the word exit be red with a white background, the word exit be green with a white background, the word exit in red with a black background and the same with exit in green. You can also refer to NFPA 101 Life Safety Code Chapter 7 Egress the section on identification of means of egress. Now all this being said this may be a local Fire Prevention Code requirement. I suggest that you contact the LJHA to find out if they have have this requirement in their local building or fire prevention code which you will have to comply with because local code comes first. Just my opinion. Hope this is helpful.
