According to NFPA 14 220.127.116.11, 1 1/2 hose is needed to be equpped. Do we have to equip 2 1/2 hose in Class III standpipe? I think only 1 1/2 hose is necessary.
2½" hoses are not required to be equipped.
Thank you so much.
on my project we are using 1" hose and I want to know under which class it will come. This is only a stand pipe system with 2 FHC in one factory, and there is no sprinkler system in this..
If it is a Light Hazard facility then you can use 1" dia. Hose.
1" hose does not belong to any class in NFPA 14. However, as Anis Hamdani Zuberi said, 1" hose can be used as Class II if the occupancy is classified as light hazard. It must also be approved by the AHJ.
For Class III System you have to equip with 2-1/2" Hose as well.
Can you suggest any reason or code base?
Class III System as per NFPA 14 is:
"18.104.22.168 Class III System. A system that provides 11⁄2 in.(40 mm) hose stations to supply water for use by trainedpersonnel and 21⁄2 in. (65 mm) hose connections to supplya larger volume of water for use by fire departments."
In case of hose connection, your answer is right.
However, regarding the hose, there is not 2 1/2 hose requirement.
22.214.171.124 Each hose connection provided for use by trained personnel shall be equipped with not more than 100 ft of listed, 1 1/2 in. lined, collapsible or noncollapsible fire hose attached and ready for use.
I think 2 1/2 hose is used by a fire fighter, so a fire fighter will carry 2 1/2 hose in case of a fire.
From a firefighting tactics standpoint, a hose supplied by 1.5" connection is a single person attack line and a hose supplied by 2.5" connection is a two person attack line.
