Assume an electrical room with a 300KW UPS system (listed, self contained). Would this room require a 1-hour rating and if so, what codes can I use to get there?
I'm looking for codes specific to the size of the UPS. Assume no large transformers, etc., etc.
Is it in fact a UPS or an Energy Storage System? NFPA 111 wont help, it does not address anything other than lead acid batteries and NFPA 855 has not be published yet (all things energy storage). Go to Chapter 52 of the 2018 NFPA 1 for guidance.
Kelly, thanks for the response. Unfortunately, we don't adopt NFPA 1. We are IFC. I may be stuck. : (
It's a UPS. But I've also had ESS's with the same size kVA. I'm trying to find a way that I (the electrical plans examiner) can require a rated room. I can do it with large transformers (NFPA 70 Article 450) but have not found a way to do so with UPS or ESS. I may have to try to write it in. I'm just searching for answers; any information is appreciated.
PS - But I'm trying to get them to adopt NFPA-1 Chapter for marijuana.
