Hi every one,
What is the safe distance to install the fire hydrant & monitor in the LPG filling plant?
Please support your answer with NFPA or related code.
Whenever possible, hydrants must be located at least 12 meters from the hazards being protected. See NFPA 24 chapter 7.
Monitors should be located as far a possible where the stream can reach the hazard being protected. The distance will depend on the selected nozzle, therefore the nozzle's manufacturer should be consulted regarding stream reach.
Hi, Thank you for your response.
The below-mentioned code says the word "buildings" so is it in particular or in general. because in my case I am using them for LPG storage tanks protection.
NFPA 24 - 7.2.3* Hydrants shall be located not less than 40 ft (12 m)from the buildings to be protected.
Please mention if you come across anything much strictly with respect to my case of application.
Technically, the LPG tanks does not meet the NFPA definition of building. However, you won't find in NFPA standards strict locations for fire hydrants. Even section 7.2.3 can be overriden by an AHJ (see section 7.2.4). Hydrant location depends on "common" sense. ¿Would you connect a hose to a hydrant next to a LPG tank on fire, risking burns? ¿Or you rather do it from a safe distance?
