The committee to plan the 2020 Fire and Life Safety Conference is well under way, so if you have instructors or topics that you would like to have considered, contact the IFIA office. You can also check our website for a submission form.

GOOD NEWS! We received notice that we have been approved from the ICC to offer Preferred Provider CEUs for monthly our classes, and the Fire and Life Safety Conference. For those with ICC certifications this is very important, as it will help you in recertifying due to the requirement of 50% of con ed points coming from preferred provider classes.

Our annual Fire Prevention luncheon has been moved to the end of September as a lead into the busy month of October and the many fire prevention related activities many departments conduct. Check out our website for award descriptions and to nominate someone.

We have begun something new - Ask the Expert. Do you have a code related question that you are having trouble getting an answer on? If so, check out our website. There is a spot to ask questions to two people who have a great deal of fire safety expertise. Their answers are not “official” from NFPA, ICC, or any company, but it may provide you with direction to the question(s) you are dealing with.

From the ICC, if you have a Fire Inspector 1 certification with Pro Board, you have through the end of the year to challenge the ICC Inspector certification. You will only have this year to do this, as they will not be offering this option in 2020.

For those looking for OSFM Inspector 1 and/or 2 classes, they will be held this fall in New Lenox. Inspector 1 will be August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, and Inspector 2 will be October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29. Check the website or contact the office to register.

The IFIA day at the State Fair is August 18. The tent is open from 10 – 5. If you can provide even a few hours of time, that would make a big difference.

On August 22 the IFIA and the IL Automatic Fire Alarm Association will combine to host their 5th annual golf outing. It will be held at Glendale Lakes Golf Club, in Glendale Heights. Registration begins at 0830 with a shot gun start at 0930. There will be plenty of par 3 games and contests. Registrations are on the IFIA website.

Some of our sound system is getting old, and the IFIA is looking to acquire a couple wireless lapel or skull mics. If you know anyone who has any that they would be willing to donate, we would certainly appreciate it. The donation can be a charitable contribution for them, as we are a 501(c)3 organization. Just a quick reminder that we want you to enjoy your summer, so there will be no regular meetings in July or August. We will look forward to seeing you back in September. However there are some one day events we are working on during that summer that you should find interesting, so keep a watch for the newsletters and e-blasts.

Some IFIA members attended the recent NFPA seminar in Texas and came back with good information, as well as many potential speakers for our 2020 conference. We also participated in the IFMA meeting where we were recognized for being a member for 20 years.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation is seeking unique stories about the impact fire and life safety codes have on the fire service and the public across the United States. These stories will be used for a new documentary series produced in partnership with First Arriving.

If have work experiences related to fire and life safety codes that could help others you can send them to the link so they can help others.
