Anyone can advise us if what type of fire suppression system to be installed in a railway depot (Light & Heavy maintenance area). Is it automatic fire sprinkler system or standpipe system? Thanks@
I would say that railroad maintenance shops would be classified as industrial occupancies in terms of NFPA 101, Life Safety Code. If this was the sole occupancy of a non-high rise building, using the 2015 NFPA 101, Section 40.3.5 extinguishment systems was "reserved" meaning no requirements at this time. However, the protection of hazards in Section 40.3.2 may require automatic sprinklers.
Standpipe systems are mainly related to high rise buildings where fire fighters need access to them on upper floors.
When located within a multiple occupancy building, it may be a different story.
I can not speculate what the local building codes and regulations are.
There is always more to add from the discovery of facts that change the parameters.
Do you have more facts about the building to add?
