Without seeing a floor plan, a little hard to call.
Is the entire floor day care???
Is this new construction or add on or remodel?
Yes, it's new construction a new daycare the entire building is a daycare. There's 2000 Sq feet of open gym play area behind the corridor that will be used for cafeteria and school age children as,well.
Should not need it.
Which building code and edition is this being built under.
Fire Code 101 2018 edition is,what I'm using. This is what I was told to go by. My contractor and myself are trying to interpret these codes correctly, without making my Fire Marshall aggravated . Lol...
I take it this is in an icncorpated city??
As in plans were submitted, reviewed and approved. ??
Or have not gotten to that stage yet??
Not really into 101, but will take a look.
Normally, if the entire building is for one use, than normally no separation is required.
What state is this in?
This is in Texas. What was going to be a 2000 Sq ft open gym area of play,
is now in the plans to be a eating room, classroom sectioned off and a play
area. My contractor told me yesterday that his builders are already
prepared to make the end of that corridor a firewall. So, I guess never
mind. He at first told me if we did not need a firewall there, it would
save me a lot of money. Thank you for your time and input in this matter!
Most of Texas is under an edition of the International Building Code,,,
If in an incorporated city
If you are in the county it could be NFPA 101.
Still seems like plans should be submitted and approved.
If 101, and a rated wal is required. It might have to be two hour rated
I highly suggest you get a set of approved plans in your hands, before much more goes on,
Will you also define what you mean by:: "a daily use classroom"???
And how many sq feet is it??
It appears separation would be required if two different types of occupancy/uses, such as a day care and a place of assembly.
But one out is if you build to the most stringent of the two occupancies.
16.1.3 Multiple Occupancies.
Multiple occupancies shall be in accordance with 6.1.14.
22.214.171.124.2 Mixed Occupancy.
A multiple occupancy where the occupancies are intermingled.
126.96.36.199.3 Separated Occupancy.
A multiple occupancy where the occupancies are separated by fire resistance–rated assemblies.
