Need suggestion whether flexible coupling required or not for fire fighting pipes in a building having Expansion joint size 25mm.
Grooved Couplings are widely available and used to provide flexibility in Fire Fighting headers and branch pipes.
We are using them in our Projects for Water Spray and Foam systems, Fire Hydrant systems very successfully.
In addition to providing against failure during Ground movement caused during Earthquake, they are much easier to install compared to welded joints or threaded joints.

If the building is in a zone where earthquakes can occur, then flexible couplings are required per NFPA 13 section 18.2.
Thanks for your reply,
However, in my project, the expansion joint considered protecting the structure from thermal expansion, not from earthquakes.
is it required flexible coupling in this situation?
Also, I read somewhere that flexible coupling is required if the expansion joint is more than 40mm. But now I couldn't find that page.
Please assist me if you can aware of the above matter.
Other than sprinkler piping cannot share supports with other piping where thermal expansion is a factor, there are other requirements in NFPA standards. You should look into installing listed expansion joint for fire fighting piping instead of installing flexible couplings.
