2nd Means Of Escape

A client is asking us if he can eliminate a door that is in his kitchen.

Here's some info:

-Building Built in 1979

-7 Story Building

-3rd floor unit

-2 Bedroom unit

-Unit has proper egress to ground

-Master Bedroom has a balcony with a sliding glass door

-2nd bedroom has a window

-A 2nd means of escape is available for all rooms

So...can the door in the kitchen be eliminated?

Can anyone shed light as to why some buildings from the 1979 era have doors in the kitchens? Was there a code requirement back then? We've worked on many condo's and not all have doors in the kitchen.

Thanks!
