Installing Ethernet In My Home

I'm looking to install ethernet in my ~45yo house. Right now I'm looking to use unshielded Cat6a cables. I've read that 16-inch spacing between the ethernet cabling and my house's electrical wiring is both up to safety code (which is 8 inches, according to the source) and minimizes data loss. Is that right? Do I need some kind of sheathing for the cabling to be up to code, and if not, would putting it in reduce the spacing required to both be safe and maintain signal integrity?

Thanks in advance!
