We have a project in the exploration phase that is asking if they can transform an unused third floor/attic space in an Existing Apartment Building without adding sprinklers. They will meet all the other requirements if they go forward, but the sprinkler cost seems to be an obstacle.
Some background on the building. Three story overall height, two stories are occupied with apartments. Using Chapter 43 I'm stuck between calling it a "Modifications 43.5" or a "Reconstruction 43.6". The latter would appear to require sprinklers on the floor in question as 100% of that floor will be in the rehabilitation work area.
Anyone work with Chapter 43 much or have a good handle on it? The Handbook is helpful, but lacks examples that fit this issue?
