We have a water spray system on an oil rig supplied from a fire pump. The fire pump takes water from the sea. We have installed a main pipeline strainer between the pump and the water spray system as the nozzles have waterways below 3/8 in and the sea water contains marin growth, shells, etc

The strainer has 1/8 in perforation but we still have clogged nozzles when we perform full scale test og the system.

The reason for this could be that the totalt open are is not large enough so some of the marin Growths are pressed through the 1/8 openings.

do anyone know if there is a reccomendation of size of the total opening of strainer i compared to the cross section of the pipe?
