ADA accessibility in basement

I work for a University who is renovating a small area of the basement(15,000 square feet) in an existing 5 story library.  They will be adding classrooms to the space.  The build was constructed in the early 80's and retrofitted with a sprinkler system after Katrina 2005.  The basement area has 3 means of egress as well as an area of refuge with two way communication.  Do we have to add a special lift in order to meet ADA requirements from the basement?  I thought the area of refuge would be sufficient.
